Five soul-searching travel destinations in India

149

I think at some point of our lives, all of us arrive at one such threshold in our careers when we do not know what to do next. We all ponder over the great question “what am I doing with my life?” to which we usually do not have the answers to. We hit the wall with the face first. At such a point in our lives, what we should remember is that it is not over yet. Nothing is over yet. It’s just a rough patch that needs some mending and we will be back on the road, as good as new.

At times of need, we all look up to that one thing where our respective faiths reside. It could be God, parent(s), a spouse or maybe a song. But actually, you should attend to your souls at such a point in time. Life isn’t bad, it’s your soul that’s suffering and is about to lose its way home. All you need is some soul-searching and what else is better than taking some time off from the mundane routine work and packing our bags for a vacation? Here is a list of 5 places in India that you can go to on a ‘soul-searching trip:

  1. Gokarna, Karnataka

Gokarna is usually regarded as a pilgrimage town by most Indians but the serene beaches can just take your breath away in the blink of an eye! The quaint little town is surrounded by five essential beaches- Om beach, Half-moon beach, Paradise beach, Kudle beach and Nirvana beach. All of these beaches have their very own specialities but the one thing that’s common in them is the peace of mind that you’re going to get. Imagine, rocking away on a hammock and looking into the endless ocean in front of you as the breeze drifts past.  This is what you need to get back to your inner self.  If you need some alone time, this is the best place.

  1. Spiti Valley, Himachal Pradesh

What else can replace the grandeur of a mountain! That’s exactly what is capable of making us realise our potential. Being in the lap of the Himalayas can overwhelm you to the fullest and make you question your existence. But all of it is for the best.  Nothing can compete against the power of nature and it is this feeling that will push you to keep trying harder in life

  1. Rann of Kutch, Gujrat

Spending a full moon night at the great Rann of Kutch is nothing short of magic. Visit the white salt desert in winters or early spring to witness it in its full bloom.  Sit on the white virgin sand on a full moon night, bathing in the cool, pale moonlight and allowing every cell of your body to be cleansed and charged by it. When your soul is happy, you are happy.

  1. Banaras, Uttar Pradesh

One of the oldest cities in the face of this earth, Banaras, is a place that can only be felt. A boat ride by the river Ganga in early morning sun is all the therapy that you will need. Walk through the narrow streets and taste the lip smacking street food of the city to immerse yourself fully into the colours of Banaras. You may notice the celebration of life and death in the Ghats where people sway in devotion to the chants of the evening prayer and side by side a physical body is consigned to flames with a prayer on the lips. If this confrontation with yourself doesn’t teach you a lesson, it might be a difficult task to carry out otherwise.

  1. Mumbai, Maharashtra

I know this is not quintessential destination for soul-searching but something that this city can teach, nothing else in this world ever will. Life in this city is always in the fast lane. If you lose a beat, it’s difficult to catch your breath again. But there is something in the ever fleeting motion that the city seems to sway in which makes you become a stronger person. Mumbai teaches you to be yourself and to trust no one else. After all, it is you who can help yourself and everything else that you come across is just glitter. Nothing really lasts forever. So, go chase your fizz!
