There is a new spa therapy in the market and it’s called Halotherapy, derived from the Greek word ‘halos’ which means ‘salt’. It is a form of alternative medicine which makes use of salt. Although it may seem to be a new form to us, but as a fact of matter, it has been known and used from millennia.
What is Halotherapy?
It is a patented method where dry salt aerosol plays an important role in relieving health problems and is helpful for people with chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases and other respiratory problems. This method is conducted in a Salt Cabin which is essentially a salt room with its ceilings, walls and floors covered in salt. Some even call it a Salt Cave. Cold weather can be bad for asthma patients, salt therapy is ideal for such cases.
How is Halotherapy treatment done?
Typically the treatment is conducted based on a certain number of Halotherapy sessions and each session lasts for about an hour. During the therapy, salt aerosol is spread in the air for the patients to breathe in. The Salt aerosol consists of tiny, dry salt particles which are ground in a special salt generator. In a week, three sessions in total will be a good dosage for typical allergy patients.
This therapy is not just beneficial for people with respiratory problems but also for people with skin ailments like eczema and psoriasis. All that you need to do is sit on the chairs that have been places around the room and and relax for the number of sessions that you have been signed up for. Each session can cost anyway between INR 500- INR 2000.
If the sessions are too expensive for some people, then there is also something known as a ‘salt lamp’. These salt lamps emit saline vapours when lit and can be used at homes too. However, there are various varieties of these salt lamps too.
Extensive research has been done into salt therapy though there’s no conclusive proof of its beneficial effects. But if you want to try it out, remember all you have to do is sit down and breathe deeply.
